Many are not enough aware that while AI offers transformative potential, its hidden costs are increasingly alarming, particularly as global adoption accelerates. Reducing AI's concerning energy consumption requires a serious, multifaceted approach. Without systemic changes, AI’s environmental costs will likely outpace its benefits. Policymakers and tech leaders must prioritize sustainable practices to mitigate this growing crisis.
What can I do as a well-intended individual user?
While AI can boost efficiency, it also poses many challenges that individual users can redirect: if misused, it can inhibit critical thinking, create overreliance, and shift cognitive load in unintended ways.

One can guess that they don’t want/need to disclose this as they seems to be taking over our lives,… the AI hype’s also promising to transform our energy systems, supercharging carbon emissions right as we’re trying to fight climate change. Now, a new and growing body of research is attempting to put hard numbers on just how much carbon we’re actually emitting with all of our AI use.
